Allied Health Program in Phlebotomy Technician

Vocational Objective

  1. To increase the number of well trained and dedicated individuals in the field of health care through our principles of learning. 
  2. To maintain and disseminate information on vocational education. 
  3. To develop a comprehensive and successful practice of phlebotomy through highly skilled techniques, wide knowledge of the current healthcare environment, and a sympathetic approach to patients of all ages, backgrounds and medical conditions. 
  4. To achieve accurate knowledge and skills by the time of program course completion.


Phlebotomy Program (In-Person and Online) Overview

8-week course (200 clock hours) includes theory and applied experience

  • Small class sizes for personalized learning
  • Course overview includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, dermal puncture, venipuncture, and more
  • Hands on Phlebotomy Training
  • External Clinical Opportunity

In-Person

Tuesdays/Thursdays

  • Mornings: 10-2pm
  • Evenings: 5-9pm

Clinical will be held at Rush University


Online (Asynchronous)

  • In person lab will be scheduled with your instructor for in-state students (Lab will be online through Zoom for out-of-state students)
  • Venipuncture kit will be delivered directly to your address.

Total cost: $1530.00 of program without CPR and Total Cost with CPR $1600.00

Breakdown

  • Phlebotomy Technician Tuition Program: $825
  • Registration fee: $500.00 (non refundable and due at time of registration)
  • ​Additional Costs: $100.00 (supplies)
  • Laboratory Safety Jacket- and Patch $105.00


CPR- $70.00 (not included in total cost of program)


Laboratory Instructional Areas

  • Perform a minimum of 30 successful unaided venipuncture collections and 10 successful unaided capillary collections.
  • Instruction in a variety of collection techniques including vacuum collection, syringe and capillary skin-puncture methods.
  • Qualified candidates will be scheduled to sit for the Competency Examination administered by National Healthcareer Association and earn the title of Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).

A CPT can work at the following facilities: Hospitals, Laboratory Company, Health Insurance Company, Dialysis clinic, Doctor’s Clinic, Home Health Care and Plasma Centers

Phlebotomy Certification Review Class

Recommended Test Prep

The CICCD offers a review class as a short day course that includes study materials and a practice exam. This is not mandatory, but recommended for those studying for the certification and need a refresher! Contact us if you're interested.
